About Whidbey Dirt Works

Thirty Years of Cleared Ground

Our Story

Three Decades Working Island Ground

Whidbey Dirt Works has spent more than thirty years doing one thing well: turning overgrown, wet, or worn-out ground into clean, usable, build-ready land. Land clearing, grading, excavation, drainage, demolition, driveways — the heavy, dirty work that has to be done right before anything else can happen on a property.

Owner Jeff Culver came up building custom homes on this island, working alongside his father, a journeyman carpenter, on the family farm. That is an unusual way into dirt work, and it shows. He knows how a foundation gets formed and poured, what framing and utilities need, and how water will move across a property for the next twenty years. So the site work is not an afterthought here — it is the part that decides whether the rest of the build holds up.

Today Whidbey Dirt Works is a registered Washington general contractor — licensed, bonded and insured — owner-operated, and still run the same simple way: answer the phone, walk the property, give you a straight price, and put our own machines and our own operators on the job. We are based on the island, so there are no ferry delays and no out-of-town crews. We work all of Whidbey, Camano Island, and north into Skagit County, and we are available 24/7 when a storm can't wait for business hours.

What We Believe

Three Rules We Don't Break

Tell You Straight

You get an honest price and honest advice. If clearing it the way you are picturing is a waste of money, or a permit problem waiting to happen, we say so before you spend a dollar.

Show Up and Follow Through

We run our own equipment and our own crew, so when we give you a date we keep it — and we finish the job clean, not leaving you a field of ruts, stumps, and debris.

Treat Your Land Like Ours

Thirty years on island ground taught us to read what is under it — protect the drainage, keep the good trees you want kept, and leave soil that builds and drains right.

Why Choose Whidbey Dirt Works

Why Whidbey Island Calls Us First

30+ Years on Island Ground

Three decades clearing, grading, and digging on Whidbey. We know what is under the topsoil here — glacial till, hardpan, rock, water that sits where it should not — and what it takes to leave ground that drains and builds right.

Licensed, Bonded & Insured

A registered Washington general contractor, bonded and fully insured on every job — a real, accountable company, not a rented machine and a handshake. Your property and your liability are covered.

Straight Answers, Free Estimates

You get an honest walk-the-property estimate and a plain-English price — no surprise add-ons, no lowball-then-upcharge. We tell you what the job really takes, then we show up and do it.

Island-Based, Owner-Operated

We live and work here. No ferry delays, no out-of-town crews, no subbing the job out and hoping. You deal with Jeff from the first call to the final grade, and our own machines and operators do the work.

How We Work

What Working With Whidbey Dirt Works Looks Like

From the first walkthrough to the final one, here’s exactly how your project runs.

1

Walk the Property & Free Estimate

We come out and look at the actual ground — the growth, the slope, the wet spots, the access — listen to what you want done, and give you a straight, written estimate. No pressure, and no guessing at a price over the phone.

2

Plan & Schedule

We lock in a date, plan equipment access and where the debris goes, and account for drainage, buried utilities, and anything on the property that has to be protected. You know the plan before a machine moves.

3

The Work

Our own crew runs our own machines, and Jeff is on-site. We keep the ground under control, keep you posted, and read what we find as we dig instead of forcing the plan through it.

4

Final Walk & Cleanup

We walk the finished property with you, deal with the debris the way the plan called for, and leave the ground clean, graded, and draining — ready for whatever you are building next.
