Utility Trenching & Installation in Whidbey Island, WA

Utility Trenching · Whidbey Island, WA

Buried Right, Once

Utility trenching across Whidbey Island, Island County and north into Skagit County for water, sewer and septic lines, electrical, and gas. We dig to the required depth, bed the line properly, and backfill and compact in lifts so the trench does not turn into a settled scar across your yard or driveway two winters from now.

Trenching looks simple and goes wrong quietly. Wrong depth, no bedding, dumped backfill, or a line crossing something it should not — and you find out years later when you are digging it back up. Utility work usually rides along with site development.

Locate Before You Dig

Washington requires that you have underground utilities located before excavating, and the free 811 call exists for exactly this reason. Hitting a gas or power line is dangerous, and hitting a water or fiber line is expensive.

We handle locates as a matter of course. It is not paperwork — it is the difference between a routine trench and a very bad afternoon.

Backfill Is Where Trenches Fail

A trench is only as good as what goes back into it. Bed the pipe properly, backfill in lifts, compact each one. Skip that and the ground settles, the surface sinks, and on a driveway it cracks the surface right along the line of the trench.

Rocky glacial soil makes this worse, because native material full of cobble does not bed pipe well. We use the right material and put the ground back the way we found it.

How We Work

What Working With Whidbey Dirt Works Looks Like

From the first walkthrough to the final one, here’s exactly how your project runs.

1

Walk the Property & Free Estimate

We come out and look at the actual ground — the growth, the slope, the wet spots, the access — listen to what you want done, and give you a straight, written estimate. No pressure, and no guessing at a price over the phone.

2

Plan & Schedule

We lock in a date, plan equipment access and where the debris goes, and account for drainage, buried utilities, and anything on the property that has to be protected. You know the plan before a machine moves.

3

The Work

Our own crew runs our own machines, and Jeff is on-site. We keep the ground under control, keep you posted, and read what we find as we dig instead of forcing the plan through it.

4

Final Walk & Cleanup

We walk the finished property with you, deal with the debris the way the plan called for, and leave the ground clean, graded, and draining — ready for whatever you are building next.

FAQ

Utility Trenching Questions, Answered

Common questions about utility trenching across Whidbey Island & Island County. Don't see yours? Give us a call — we're happy to help.

Call (360) 632-5159

Do you call for utility locates?
Always. Washington law requires underground utilities be located before excavation, the call is free, and it takes a couple of business days. We build that into the schedule.
Can you trench for a new well or septic line?
Yes. We trench and install water lines and septic lines and restore the surface afterward. Septic work has its own permitting and inspection requirements, which we will walk you through.
Will there be a trench line across my yard afterward?
Not if it is backfilled and compacted correctly. Settled trench scars come from dumped backfill. We compact in lifts and grade the surface back.
How deep does a trench need to be?
It depends on the utility and the applicable code, and requirements differ for water, sewer, power, and gas. We dig to the depth your inspection requires, not the depth that is convenient.
